The attention of the McDan Group has been drawn to a publication issued by the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) concerning a parcel of land situated on the Spintex Road, adjacent to and opposite Action Chapel International.

For the avoidance of doubt and to set the record straight, the subject matter referenced in the publication is currently before a court of competent jurisdiction and remains pending before the Court of Appeal following an appeal duly filed by McDan Group.

As such, the issues in dispute are sub judice, and all parties are expected to exercise restraint and avoid public commentary capable of prejudicing the ongoing judicial process.

The McDan Group therefore views the publication and the narratives surrounding it as unfortunate, premature, and calculated attempts to undermine the hard-earned reputation, credibility, and integrity of the Group and its Executive Chairman, Dr. Daniel McKorley.

We wish to state unequivocally that McDan Group remains a law-abiding Ghanaian business institution that has consistently operated within the confines of the law and with utmost respect for due process. At no point has the Company acted in disregard of the legal process, nor will it do so.

While we remain fully committed to allowing the judicial process to take its lawful course, we strongly reject any attempt to create a false impression of wrongdoing or unlawfulness against the Company while the matter is yet to be finally determined by the courts.

We therefore urge the general public, stakeholders, business partners, and prospective investors to treat the publication and related misleading narratives with caution and restraint pending the final determination of the matter by the courts.

McDan Group maintains full confidence in the independence and integrity of Ghana’s judicial system and shall continue to pursue all lawful avenues to protect its legitimate interests, corporate reputation, and the integrity of its operations.

The Company further reserves all legal rights in respect of any statements, publications, or actions that may seek to prejudice the pending proceedings or occasion reputational harm to the Group.

Business magnate and philanthropist Daniel McKorley has been honoured as the “Most Influential Entrepreneur of All Time” at the 15th Anniversary and Awards Ceremony of the Entrepreneurs Foundation of Ghana (EFG).

The event took place on Friday, August 1, 2025, at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra.

The award celebrates decades of entrepreneurial leadership, innovation, job creation, and national development by Daniel McKorley, the Founder and Executive Chairman of the McDan Group of Companies—a Ghanaian conglomerate with footprints in logistics, aviation, shipping, construction, mining, salt production, agribusiness, and real estate.

He joined a distinguished list of honorees that evening, including:

  • Naa Prof. Edmund Nminyem Delle, CHIIR VIII of Rabito Clinic
  • Dr. Paul Kofi Fynn, Chancellor of Wisconsin International University College

In his acceptance speech, Daniel McKorley thanked Mr. Sam Ato Gaisie, the visionary founder of EFG, for consistently championing Ghanaian entrepreneurship.

He reflected on his journey and the obstacles many entrepreneurs still face.

“I came from very little—but what I had was a dream and a deep belief that Ghana is a land of opportunity,” he said. “Yes, it’s tough. But I’m happy to be in Ghana, to work here, and to believe that the future I hold for this country will surely be fulfilled.”

He encouraged fellow entrepreneurs and young Ghanaians to be bold, resilient, and hopeful, saying, “If you want it, fight for it. Ghana is waiting for you to rise.”

A lighter moment during the event drew smiles and applause when Dr. McKorley was asked why he stood at the edge of the stage to help his female staff up to join him.

He replied, “I’m a romantic man—and my disposition has always been to serve.”

Daniel McKorley is the first Ghanaian to own and operate a private jet terminal and oversees Africa’s largest salt mine.

Under his leadership, the McDan Group has established a presence in over 2,400 ports globally.

He holds a Diploma in Leadership from Lehigh University, a BSc and Executive MBA from GIMPA, and an honorary Doctorate from the London Business School.

He is also the founder of the McDan Foundation, which champions education, sports, and youth entrepreneurship.

Through initiatives like McDan Youth Connect and the McDan Entrepreneurship Challenge, he continues to empower a new generation of African entrepreneurs.

Ghanaian business magnate Dr. Daniel Mckorley (McDan) has admonished young graduates to pursue self-employment for survival, innovation, and job creation in Africa.

He emphasised that Africa’s stagnant markets and outdated systems could be improved and developed with enough local talent who pursue problem-solving innovations.

Speaking at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Business School 20th Anniversary alumni homecoming, McDan urged investment in capital, education, and vision to ensure a thriving environment for resilient entrepreneurs.

The alumni homecoming as part of the Business School’s 20th Anniversary saw an assembly of old students, university leadership and current students to celebrate the journey of academic and professional excellence of the school.

Addressing the members of academia, industry leaders, traditional rulers, and students, a leading entity in logistics, aviation (McDan Aviation), port operations (McDan Ports), salt mining, and agro-processing, alumnus Dr. Daniel Mckorley, emphasised the power of entrepreneurship in Africa.

“The power of entrepreneurship in Africa is not simply about starting a business. In Africa, it is about survival, innovation, and transformation. It is the entrepreneur who identifies opportunity where others see scarcity. It is the entrepreneur who creates jobs when the formal sector cannot. It is the entrepreneur who challenges outdated systems, introduces new technologies, and disrupts stagnant
markets,” he said.

He was addressing the theme: “Entrepreneurship as a Catalyst for Capability and Resilience in Africa’s Business Ecosystem”.

He stressed that entrepreneurship has the potential to build a resilient new Africa.

“This is not just an academic theme; it is a lived reality for me and for countless African entrepreneurs who wake up every day not just to do business but to build nations. Resilience is not built in comfort. It is built through challenges, setbacks, and recoveries. As we face global economic uncertainties, climate change, and rapid technological shifts, it will be entrepreneurship that keeps our economies afloat,” he said.

The McDan Group spans aviation, logistics, salt production, real estate, and agribusiness.

McDan entreated young people and aspiring businesses to value impact and people over profit-making as a way to address the social and economic gaps in Africa.

He also underlined the need for a supportive ecosystem where young people with brilliant ideas can thrive.

“But our greatest achievement is not our profits; it is our people, our impact, and our example to the next
generation. Africa does not suffer from a lack of entrepreneurs. What we lack is a supportive ecosystem.

Too many young people with brilliant ideas are crushed by bureaucracy, lack of funding, or absence of mentorship.

“To make entrepreneurship a real catalyst for development, we must build ecosystems that are: Inclusive, giving women and marginalised groups equal access. Resource-rich with funding, training, and infrastructure. Policy-driven with governments that enable, not disable, business. Digitally empowered, so African entrepreneurs can compete globally,” he said.

The McDan Foundation has received high praise from Zongo communities in Kumasi following a traditional ceremony that honoured its founder, Daniel McKorley, for his sustained investment in the education of underprivileged youth. 

At a mini durbar on Monday, attended by tribal chiefs, elders, students and beneficiaries, Dr McKorley was celebrated for his four-year commitment to transforming lives through tertiary education support.

The event, held in Kumasi, was marked by tributes from community leaders who described McKorley as a “Messiah of the Zongo” for his consistent role in enabling youth to access higher education. The ceremony was both a celebration of achievements and a platform to expand the initiative, with the induction of ten new students into the McDan Scholarship Scheme.

“This durbar is not just ceremony; it’s the heartfelt thanks of a community witnessing its youth rise through education,” one of the chiefs said. “McKorley and his foundation have lit a path where before there was often darkness. Our graduates here today are living proof of the power of this support.”

The scholarship scheme, which now supports over 300 students across various universities and tertiary institutions in Ghana, is fully funded by the McDan Foundation. Beneficiaries have come from different parts of the country, but Monday’s event focused on the impact within Zongo communities in the Ashanti Region.

Addressing the newly inducted scholars, McKorley underscored the need for responsibility, hard work, and community impact. “This scholarship is not just about paying fees,” he told the students. “It is an investment in your potential and in the future of your communities. Dr Daniel McKorley, popularly known as McDan, has been named Salt Mining CEO of the Year, a recognition that underscores his pivotal role in revitalising Ghana’s salt industry and contributing to the country’s broader industrialisation agenda.

As Executive Chairman of Electrochem Ghana Limited, a subsidiary of the McDan Group, Dr. McKorley has spearheaded the transformation of the once underutilised Songor Lagoon into Africa’s largest salt production facility.

Under his leadership, Electrochem Ghana now produces 650,000 metric tons of salt annually, with plans to scale up to one million metric tons by 2024 and two million metric tons by 2027.

The facility produces salt at a 99.99% purity level, aligning with international standards and positioning Ghana as a competitive force in the global salt market.

A lot of the time, you don’t need miracles or complex solutions to get ahead. Something you need to do is to get out of your comfort zone. That comfort zone that makes you feel safe may be the biggest obstacle to your advancement. Get out of it and test the waters.
I find that most people want success, but they avoid discomfort. But guess what? Comfort feels good now, but it will cost you later. Career growth, sustainable wealth, and personal fulfilment—they all live outside your comfort zone.
I get it, it is extremely hard to leave our comfort zone and choose a different path to chase our dreams and achieve our goals. The process is often difficult and stressful until you reach a point where you feel fulfilled and satisfied.
But at the same time, it is highly rewarding. It teaches so much about things you didn’t even think you needed to know. It helps you get clarity in your mind about what you want and where you want to be.
If you consider taking this path, all you need is courage and preparation.
If you are already working towards achieving your dreams, I respect and support you with all my heart.
If you are in a stage where things feel unbearable or too difficult, remind yourself that this is an essential part of the process to learn and improve.
I’m doing the same, as I have done many times before in my life. When you look at my portfolio, you’d realise that I have made strategic investments in Shipping, Freight Forwarding, Customs Clearance, Cargo and Port Handling, Transportation, Fixed Based Operations, Real Estate, Construction, Civil Engineering, Agriculture, and Salt Production.
I did all that because sometimes, you have to take risks to see how far you can go. A comfort zone keeps you trapped in the same stagnant place. If you don’t take a chance, you will never explore your potential. Be okay with failure. Be fine with mistakes. They are part of the process. Learn and grow from it.
This is the way.

When meeting someone for the first time, the way you present yourself speaks volumes about your character. If you are seated when an introduction occurs, it is a sign of respect and courtesy to rise to your feet. Standing up demonstrates that you acknowledge the other person’s presence and value the interaction. As you extend your hand, ensure your handshake is firm—this conveys confidence and sincerity. A weak handshake can come across as disinterest, while an overly strong grip may seem aggressive; aim for balance.
Eye contact is equally important. Looking the person directly in the eyes as you greet them establishes a connection and signals engagement. It shows you are present in the moment and genuinely interested in the introduction. Repeating their name twice reinforces your attentiveness and helps in remembering their name, which makes future interactions smoother. People appreciate when their names are remembered—it makes them feel valued and respected.
Altogether, these actions—standing up, a firm handshake, direct eye contact, and name repetition—reflect humility, respect, confidence, and interest. They set the foundation for meaningful conversations and strong relationships, whether in professional or social settings. Mastering these simple gestures will leave a lasting positive impression on those you meet.

One career concept I always like to give to young professionals who are trying to be successful in life: “Swallow the frog for your boss.”
Here’s what I mean by that:
a. Observe your boss.
b. Figure out what they hate doing.
c. Learn to do it.
d. Take it off their plate.
We all know that every boss has that one thing they really dislike—whether it’s putting together reports, scheduling endless meetings, chasing down approvals, or handling some mundane administrative tasks. It can be frustrating for them, and these responsibilities often weigh heavily on their time.
Your role? Pay attention and be observant. Look for those tasks that seem to burden your boss, and consider how you can step in to make their life a little easier.
Once you’ve identified a task, don’t wait for them to hand it to you. Approach them with compassion and say, “I’ve noticed this takes a lot of your time—would it help if I took care of it for you?” And then, genuinely take on that responsibility.
Why does this matter? You’re doing more than just completing duties; you’re alleviating a pressure point for your boss. By freeing up their time, you allow them to focus on the bigger picture while also showing that you genuinely care about the team’s success.
If you make this a consistent practice, you’ll likely notice something wonderful: your boss starts to rely on you more. You become the person they trust, the one they can count on to lighten their load. And when new opportunities for growth or promotions come along, who do you think will be at the forefront of their mind?
It’s not merely about having all the answers; it’s about being a helpful and dedicated team member. By offering to help with the tasks your boss finds daunting, you not only advance your career but also foster a supportive and collaborative work environment.

Ghanaian business magnate Dr Daniel McKorley, popularly known as McDan, has reaffirmed his commitment to strategic investments around Kotoka International Airport despite a recent court decision awarding the disputed land to the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL).

On May 6, the High Court in Accra ruled in favour of GACL, granting the state agency full possession of more than 16 acres of prime airport land.

The property, situated near the Kotoka International Airport, had been under the control of McDan Shipping Company and Airport Logistics Limited, subsidiaries of the McDan Group.

GACL initiated legal action, citing violations of lease agreements and unpaid ground rent amounting to $26,296. The court upheld the claims and authorized GACL to repossess the land.

In response, the McDan Group has filed for a stay of execution and announced plans to appeal the ruling.

The company insists it has acted responsibly and in good faith throughout its nearly two-decade occupancy of the land.

According to the group, significant investments have been made to secure and improve the area, including the construction of warehouses and the provision of private security patrols for over 12 years to deter encroachment.

These efforts, McDan argues, reflect a long-term vision to develop the space into a logistics and trade hub.

“That the Defendants/Respondents/Respondents are advised and verily believe same to be true that the Honourable Court was duty bound to determine whether there was a legal basis for a relief against forfeiture as provided under Section 58 of the Land Act 2020, Act 1036.

“That there exist special circumstances warranting the grant of a stay of execution of the Judgment of the Honourable Court.

“That the Honourable Court granted an order for recovery of possession, and if the Judgment is not stayed irreparable damage will be caused to the Defendants/Appellants/Applicants as their appeal would be rendered nugatory.

“That the Defendants/Appellants/Applicants have developed the disputed land and a refusal of the instant application would mean losing all their investments and property on the lands in dispute,” part of the court papers said.

McDan maintains that his engagement with traditional allodial landowners from La, Teshie, and Nungua was intended to foster trust and inclusion.

According to him, he chose to work directly with these communities rather than seek a title through the Lands Commission, a move he says was guided by cultural respect and a community-first approach.

Supporters of the McDan Group believe the legal decision risks undermining years of developmental work and community support.

They argue that McDan’s presence in the area has generated employment and enhanced economic activity.

The company has emphasized that it will exhaust all legal avenues to protect its investments and uphold its legacy as a pioneer in transforming the airport enclave.

Addressing young people during the recent edition of the McDan Youth Connect series held in Kumasi, the seasoned entrepreneur encouraged students not to wait until after graduation to pursue business ideas, but to start exploring opportunities while still in school.

“For students who are unsure if entrepreneurship is for them, let me tell you something I shared on the recent #McDanYouthConnect series in Kumasi: take the leap right now,” he said.

According to McDan, the university years offer a unique window to try, fail, and grow without the heavy responsibilities that often come later in life.

“You’re young and have a safety net. You don’t have a house to pay off yet and have the freedom to experiment and learn from your mistakes,” he noted. “Student entrepreneurship offers a unique opportunity to gain practical experience, build a network, and discover what you truly enjoy.”

Drawing from his own journey, McDan advised that blending entrepreneurship with formal education equips students with real-world skills and a mindset of resilience.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of McDan Foundation, Dr. Daniel McKorley has pledged to transform Zongo communities in the Ashanti Region by offering interest-free loans to women.

With such support, the women in the catchment area will be economically empowered to support their families and improve their well-being.

Dr. McKorley, popularly known as McDan, believes it is about time women, as well as the youth in the Zongo communities, divert their aggression towards developing their communities.

Per the latest unemployment data by the Ghana Statistical Service, about two out of ten women are unemployed.

The statistics from the third quarter of 2023 further indicate that about 8 out of 10 females are vulnerable.

Though governments over the years have channelled resources towards the development of Zongo communities, unemployment still remains a worry.

The CEO of McDan Foundation emphasised the need for women to receive support, to create employment.

He continued that the role of Zongo women cannot be discounted, hence the need to resource them to be independent and contribute significantly to their homes.

Dr. McKorley made this pledge during the launch of the 2025 ‘McDan Inter Tribes Football Tournament’ at Aboabo Middle B School Park recently, with a Champions Super Cup match between first two previous winners; the Hausas and Moshies.

The Moshies won the match 6:5 against the Hausas in a pulsating penalty shootout to be crowned as champions.

“We organised this tournament to bring unity among the communities.  We want the Muslim youth to be more   responsible and more dedicated towards their own community, so that they will be seen as better young men and women for a better tomorrow,” he said.

According to Dr. McKorley, the decision to assist the Zongo women is part of McDan Foundation’s broader corporate social responsibility initiatives, which include supporting communities and vulnerable people.

The McDan Foundation, he added, has a history of supporting various initiatives, including building schools in deprived communities and investing in youth sports development.

Dr. McKorley, who has been sponsoring some needy but brilliant university students from the Zongo communities, pledged to pick students onto his scholarship scheme this year.

For his part, Mohammed Nurudeen Abubakar, the President for Zongo Forum, thanked Dr. McKorley and his Foundation for their gesture and their quest to be part of this year’s Inter Tribes Football Tournament in the Zongo communities of the Ashanti Region.

“The Kumasi Zongo is having over 40 tribes that are living in peace and harmony, so he decided to sponsor this laudable initiative of inter tribes football tournament.  We are pleased to have him associating with our Zongo community,” Nurudeen Abubakar stressed.

He added, “Football brings unity, and this tournament brings on board over thousands of people to support their tribes, and that is the beauty of it. We have never had an incidence of violence despite having no security, meaning with the appropriate mechanism, our people can live in peace. Our aim is to unite us such that we see each other as one.”

“Every time I scroll through my LinkedIn, I notice many young professionals proudly label themselves as ‘CEO,’ ‘Business Manager,’ ‘Digital Expert,’ or ‘Business Consultant’ after completing a short learning program, a handful of YouTube courses, or earning some certificates from Coursera,” he wrote in a social media post on Monday, April 7.

“Then I engage them, and it’s clear: they are not quite who they describe themselves to be. There’s no real substance. No depth. No real understanding. Just vibes and fancy titles,” he added.

The businessman stressed that true expertise is not about self-assigned titles but about one’s ability to deliver results through consistent practice and performance.

“Expertise is not about what you call yourself. It’s about what you can actually do. Real expertise is in your performance. It’s not in the talking. It’s not in the thinking. It’s not in the wishing. It’s not in the planning. It’s in the doing!

“Beyond that, to nail your expertise, you have to do it over and over and over and over again,” McDan asserted.

The country needs to take practical steps to resolve the paradox of low skills gap in the face of rising unemployment, an entrepreneur has entreated.

The Executive Chairman of McDan Group of Companies, Daniel McKorley, said the mismatch between the country’s education and what the industry demanded from products of universities and institutions of higher learning must be addressed head on.

Delivering the keynote address at the 70th anniversary of the Kumasi Technical University (KsTU), he stated that closing the skills gap required more focus on technical and vocational education and training (TVET).

He was speaking on the theme, “Bridging the Skills Gap: Investing in Technical Education for Employment and Growth”.

Skills gap

Mr Mckorley said the country must ensure that academic curricula aligned with industry needs to equip students and graduates with skills that made them employable and entrepreneurial.

He said thousands of young graduates stepped into the job market every year, yet industries struggled with finding the right talent.

“The skills gap is not merely an academic concern; it is an economic challenge.

It affects productivity, innovation, and ultimately our national development.

 

Without the right skills, industries cannot expand, businesses cannot thrive, and our youth cannot fully realise their potential,” he said.

Technical education

The serial entrepreneur emphasised that TVET was about empowering individuals with practical, hands-on skills that met the needs of industries and drove economic transformation.

“I have always believed that Africa’s future will be shaped by its artisans, engineers and problem-solvers.

“If we want to compete in the global market, we must shift our focus from theoretical learning to practical, industry-driven training,” Mr McKorley said.

He, therefore, commended the Kumasi Technical University for its role in the transformation, but added that there was still more work to be done.

Private sector collaboration

Mr McKorley also urged the private sector to collaborate with technical universities to provide real-world exposure, internships and apprenticeships to young people.

He said companies must also ensure that interns were given opportunities to develop their skills and not just send them on errands.

“Instead of gaining hands-on industry knowledge, many interns become experts at locating the best food joints in town — not by choice, but because they are often sent to buy food for staff instead of being trained for the work they came to learn.

“If we truly want to prepare our youth for the workforce, we must give them real work experience, not just a lunch delivery schedule,” he said.

Invest in Technical education

The McDan Group Executive Chairman indicated that at the group, they had taken deliberate steps to invest in skills training through our McDan Entrepreneurship Challenge, scholarships and other initiatives.

He said the group was donating copies of the Compendium of Supply Chain Management Terms as well as offering its time and expertise to students studying in fields related to their businesses.

He called for more businesses, policymakers and educational institutions to join the cause to move beyond just discussing the skills gap to taking action.

Dr Mckorley also called for the prioritisation of modernising workshops, laboratories and training centres to meet global standards.

He added that students must be encouraged to create jobs through innovation and not just seek jobs.

The Chief Executive Officer of McDan Group of Companies, Daniel McKorley popularly known as McDan has revealed his intention of investing in Ghana’s creative sector.

According to the business mogul known for his investments across other sectors of the economy, including aviation, his decision stems from the wealth of talent in the creative industry.

In an interview with NY DJ on BTM Afrika, Mr. McKorley praised Ghanaian creatives for their exceptional talent and strong work ethic, but noted that they often struggle to take their careers to the next level due to limited financial resources.

Citing Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy as cases in point, he said: “I can tell you that Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy are some of the most talented artists in Africa. None of these Nigerian artists comes close to them, although they are also talented. Their (Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy) music and stage performances are amazing.”

Asked why he would want to invest in the sector, Daniel McKorley highlighted the great financial potential of the creative economy.

“That space brings a lot of money, and I smile where there’s good money, but it’s not my space, so I would want to sit back as the godfather to support (financially, etc.) people to get into that space. You can’t be everywhere. If you’re living in the system, you have to give others a shoulder,” he further noted.

He also called on other businessmen to invest in the creative sector since musicians, and other creatives are great ambassadors of the country.

“I believe in my heart that they need serious support from businessmen. They are our ambassadors, and I feel we need to invest more in them. I’m not really into that space, but I can see some good young upcoming talents as well,” he added.

In 2022, Daniel McKorley awarded Ghanaian multidisciplinary creative George Quaye a $2 million contract.

He made this revelation during the McDan Youth Connect event which was held on August 11, 2022 at the KNUST in Kumasi.

While encouraging the youth to yearn for greatness and learn to grow by taking baby steps, McDan cited George Quaye, as one of the people who had grown tremendously in his field.

“I’m here with Aboagye. Aboagye you saw in ‘Taxi Driver’ just won a contract from me – about two million dollars. You saw him in ‘Taxi Driver’ like he was joking [in ‘Taxi Driver] but Aboagye had a purpose. Today, he is sitting here in suit. Everybody has something special in him,” he noted.

George Quaye, also the Team Lead for ImageBureau, has in the past few years been vibrant in the field of theatre. Together with his partner Naa Ashorkor, they have staged a number of brilliant plays, aiming to help project theatre in Ghana.

The Executive Chairman of the McDan Group of Companies, Dr Daniel McKorley, popularly known as Mcdan, has dismissed claims that he harbours ambitions of becoming the president of Ghana in the future.

According to him, he has no political aspirations and intends to remain in his space as a businessman, focusing on economic development and youth empowerment.

Speaking in an interview on Oyerepa TV on March 28, 2025, Dr. McKorley emphasized that his goal is to support the youth and contribute to national development as a key stakeholder, rather than pursuing the presidency.

“For the presidency, no. I want to be very influential but not to be president. I want to help the youth. I want to help this country. Right now, we have a new president, and all businessmen have to support him to succeed. If he succeeds, the country will succeed, and all of us will benefit,” he stated.

McDan also urged the business community to rally behind President ,John Dramani Mahama arguing that a prosperous nation benefits everyone.

“We are in the private sector, and I want to make money there and support,” he added.

Renowned Ghanaian businessman and Executive Chairman of the McDan Group, Daniel McKorley, popularly known as McDan, has urged the youth to prioritize hard work over comfort.

According to him, young adults need to practice discipline, courage, and personal sacrifice in order to achieve success.

McDan, who has become a symbol of entrepreneurial success in Ghana, urged them to cut back on sleep to invest more time in self-improvement and service to others.

“If you sleep eight hours a day, start sleeping four hours. Add the extra two hours in serving somebody. There’s a lot of benefit in service. So, start with yourself,” McDan advised.

McDan was speaking at the 2025 edition of PCH Hangouts at the ICGC The New Wine Temple, East Legon.

He lamented that while many Ghanaian youth are intelligent and full of potential, they often lack the discipline and “finishing power” needed to turn their dreams into reality.

Drawing from his own experiences, McDan recounted the massive response to the McDan Entrepreneur Challenge, which received 15,000 applications for new businesses.

However, he noted that many applicants struggled to see their ideas through to completion.

“It’s not money. The finishing power. If you ask me to stop everything and focus on one thing, focus on yourself,” he stated.

McDan encouraged young people to cultivate discipline and courage, characteristics he believes are essential for overcoming challenges and achieving long-term goals.

“Discipline is what the Ghanaian youth need, discipline and a bit of courage. We have smart youth in this country, but they need a bit of discipline and a bit of courage,” he said.

Dr Daniel McKorley, Chairman of the McDan Group of Companies, demonstrated his commitment to giving back to society through the McDan Foundation.

This time, he presented food items to thousands of widows in Accra, in collaboration with RIDNE Food Consortium of Ukraine.

The donation, which included cartons of assorted food items such as wheat flour, canned turkey meat, and rice, was presented to the beneficiaries at Mantse Agboena, James Town in Accra.

Dr McKorley expressed his satisfaction at being able to put smiles on the faces of the less privileged in society.

“My heart always gets gladdened when I see the poor very excited, and you know where I come from and where I stand in this country when it comes to giving back to Mother Ghana and to the various communities,” Dr McKorley stated.

The McDan Group has been engaged in Corporate Social Responsibility for the past 20 years, and this donation is part of their ongoing efforts.

Dr McKorley noted that “Life is difficult, the system is difficult, and the economy is difficult, and widows are one forgotten people in this country, so if you asked me, I am very excited to celebrate the whole day with them.”

The Commercial Director of RIDNE Food Consortium, Mr Sergii Kovalchuk, expressed his outfit’s commitment to supporting vulnerable communities in Ghana and Ukraine with food items to promote an inclusive society.

He was optimistic about further partnership with the McDan group to combine products from both countries for food production in Ghana.

The beneficiary widows expressed gratitude to McDan and its partners for the support.

The initiative is expected to be extended to other parts of the country soon.

In addition to the food donation, medical officers from VIVA Health and Medical Foundation conducted health screening exercises for the widows and residents of James Town and its environs.

The screening included Body Mass Index checking, malaria testing, and blood pressure checking, among others.

Prescriptions and over-the-counter medications were dispensed freely to those diagnosed with ailments.

This year’s edition of the McDan Widows Support Project coincided with the 2025 edition of the International Women’s Day celebration.

The CEO of the McDan Group, Dr. Daniel McKorley has advised persons who are willing to establish businesses in Ghana, urging them to brace themselves for the challenges inherent in the country’s business environment.

His comments were made at the recent Ghana CEO-Presidential Gala Dinner, where he provided a candid assessment of the obstacles faced by the private sector.

“I will be very blunt,” Dr. McKorley began, adding. “Government policies have really not helped the private sector. That is where we are sitting right now, and we have to be frank about it.”

Dr. McKorley, popularly known as McDan, highlighted the resilience required to succeed as a Ghanaian business owner.

“If you want to do business in Ghana, then you have to be prepared. Being a Ghanaian doing business in Ghana, you have to be brave,” he advised.

“Many times, it looks like we don’t support our own. I have tasted it, I have slept with it, and I’m living with it—it’s quite dangerous and difficult,” he added.

He noted the economic potential of his companies if the government could establish a more supportive framework.

“If you build the life of my businesses… we can generate $3.2 billion for the government every year,” he noted.

The Chief Executive of McDan Group of Companies, Daniel McKorley, has said it takes boldness to establish and run business in the country.

During the Ghana CEO-Presidential summit held in Accra, the business magnate explained that the system of Ghana does not offer enough support to entrepreneurs.

He shared instances of challenges he faced while establishing his own business in Ghana, emphasising the difficulties he went through to build the McDan Group of Companies.

“Being a Ghanaian to do business in Ghana, you have to be brave, many times we don’t support our own.

“I have tasted it, I have slept with it, and I living with it and it’s quite dangerous and difficult,” he said on Thursday.

Mr McKorley further noted that if the country had ten businesses that could generate $3.2 billion annually, the country would not need to seek financial aid from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to bolster the economy.

He also mentioned that he does not believe in manifestoes but rather a national agenda.

“If we can all work towards a single national agenda, and implement a straightforward policy to build the greatest businesses in the country for the next four, five, or 10 years, we have everything we need,” he commented.

Mr McKorley went on to suggest that all Ghanaians should come together to contribute to the growth of the economy.

He urged everyone to assist the government, stating that they should not seek refuge in other countries as Ghana is their only home.

The CEO of McDan Group, Dr Daniel Mckorley, has emphasised the importance of a unified national agenda over political manifestos.

Expressing scepticism about the promises of political parties, Dr McKorley during the Ghana CEO-Presidential Gala Dinner on Thursday, highlighted the need for a single long-term vision for Ghana’s economic growth.

“I have read the two manifestos of the two parties,” Dr McKorley revealed. “Honestly, I don’t believe in manifestos, but I believe in a national agenda.”

He explained that the nation’s growth requires a collective focus and alignment across political lines.

“If we scale towards one national agenda and have one straight policy, we could achieve so much more over the next five, ten years,” he said.

Dr McKorley argued that a well-defined national agenda would allow businesses and government to work collaboratively, fostering conditions for Ghana to develop world-class industries.

He pointed to other countries where governments align closely with their private sectors to drive development.

“I was listening to President-elect Trump recently, and he made very straightforward statements towards the private sector,” Dr McKorley added.

“We need to get serious here. We can help government, and we must.”

For Dr McKorley, a national agenda would not only streamline development but also instil a sense of responsibility and unity within the business community.

“This is our country. We don’t have anywhere else to go,” he declared. “All my investments are in Ghana, and we have to put all our resources here.”

The McDan Group and the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to develop national capabilities in marine transport and logistics.

The signing ceremony took place in Tema, marking a significant step towards enhancing domestic maritime infrastructure.

Established in 1986, GPHA is responsible for the planning, development and regulation of ports in the country.

McDan Group, an indigenous conglomerate, operates in shipping, freight forwarding customs clearance, cargo and port handling, transportation and haulage, fixed based operations, real estate, construction, civil engineering, agriculture, salt mining, among others. McDan Group’s salt production operations are run through its subsidiary, ElectroChem Ghana Limited.

With the acquisition of a 30-year renewable lease for the Ghana Highway Authority’s ferry maintenance and operations terminal site in Ada, McDan plans to develop the “ElectroChem Terminal, Port of Ada”.

This project aims to streamline the management and export of bulk natural and processed salt, addressing the growing regional and global demand for salt.

The collaboration is expected to improve Ghana’s cargo services management capacity, reduce operational costs, and bolster socio-economic activities, particularly within the salt business cluster.

The planned ElectroChem Terminal will include essential facilities for bulk salt handling and processing, ultimately enhancing accessibility for export to international markets.

Dr.  McKorley commented on the importance of the MoU, stating: “This agreement reinforces our commitment to developing Ghana’s marine sector. By investing in infrastructure and human capital, we are not only improving logistics but also contributing to the local economy”.

The project will include feasibility studies to assess technical, economic, and environmental viability, as well as the development of navigation channels and terminal facilities.

Key components will involve constructing quay walls, storage facilities, and upgrading the road network connecting Ada to major highways, thus facilitating efficient transportation of salt products.

The MoU also establishes a Joint Project Development Team to oversee technical meetings, stakeholder engagement, and the execution of various services agreements. Both parties will work closely to ensure the project’s successful implementation, aiming for further agreements to enhance collaboration.

With ElectroChem holding the largest salt mining concession in Africa, currently producing 650,000 tonnes annually, and a production capacity exceeding 2 million tonnes annually, the development of the Ada port is poised to reduce Ghana’s salt import dependency and enhance its export capabilities.

This initiative is expected to create jobs, strengthen local economies, and foster sustainable growth in the region.

As the project progresses, McDan Group aims to build a state-of-the-art facility that includes warehouses, maintenance docks, and residential amenities, contributing to the overall development of the Ada community.

The Executive Chairman of the McDan Group, Dr. Daniel McKorley, is optimistic that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between McDan Group and the government of Kenya will yield significant results in the implementation of the AfCFTA.
Dr. McKorley believes that this move will result in a financial turnover of about $1 billion as his organisation positions itself as a key player in facilitating the seamless movement of goods across the continent under the free trade pact.

In an interview with CNBC Africa, the McDan Group Chairman explained that they are making strategic investments in port infrastructure and logistics, particularly in Kenya, as part of efforts to bridge trade gaps and overcome existing barriers between West and East Africa, specifically between Ghana and Kenya.

“The MoU is intended to facilitate business between the countries, and it is quite comprehensive. We are moving almost 100 containers with an annual turnover of about US$1 billion. However, it involves more support services for each country, which is why it is bilateral,” he said.He emphasised that infrastructure remains a key component of implementing trade activities under AfCFTA, adding that making these investments is crucial for the successful movement of goods and services across the continent.

As a free trade area connecting 1.3 billion people across 55 countries, with a combined Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of US$3.4 trillion, the AfCFTA, which is headquartered in Ghana, promises immense new markets, accelerated industrialisation, and fresh investment opportunities.

The Group CEO of McDan Companies made these statements on Friday, October 11, 2024, during a plenary discussion on the topic “Leveraging Trading Companies and Strategic Partnerships for Intra-African Trade,” monitored by Nyansa TV at the ongoing AfCFTA meeting at the Kigali Convention Centre.

In addressing the challenges of intra-African trade, Mr. McKorley disclosed his company’s plans to launch Black Star Line and the Black Shipping Company by acquiring two cargo planes and a vessel to initiate the process.

He asserted, “Whoever controls the air and sea controls the business. It is crucial for us to take action and implement solutions.”

He added, “It is unacceptable that in the 21st century, cargo from Ghana to Senegal, for example, must go through Belgium before reaching Senegal. These challenges inflate cargo costs, impeding business growth in Africa.”

McKorley believed that for the Continental Free Trade to succeed, it is vital for African governments and businesses to address logistical challenges.

The business mogul, popularly known as McDan, made the job offer when some street hawkers approached his car for money in a video circulating on social media.

The billionaire businessman and philanthropist is looking to provide sustainable employment and livelihood opportunities to the street hawkers rather than pamper them with handouts.

McDan has in the past sponsored the education and vocational training of thousands of underprivileged youth across Ghana.

“Come, I’ll give you jobs. The last time, I took you people to go and learn jobs, but only two people stayed over there.

The donation, which is an annual gesture initiated by the founder of the McDan group, Dr Daniel McKorley is aimed at promoting the Ga-Dangme people, interests and cultural heritage.
Public Relations (PR) Executive of the Group, Jeffery Tetteh who presented the cheque on behalf of the Eexecutive Chairman of the McDan group assured of the commitment of the group towards supporting a successful festive season.

The Executive Chairman of the McDan Group of Companies, Dr Daniel McKorley, is concerned about the implementation of the incumbent government’s flagship programme, One District One Factory (1D1F). According to him, although it is a brilliant initiative, the government should have let the private sector take full charge of it to ensure its sustainability and success. “One District One Factory (1D1F) is one of the brilliant ideas that this government came up with, but the implementation was wrong and I questioned it,” he said on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Wednesday. He highlighted the crucial role that industry plays in any economy, noting that it is a sector that generates substantial employment opportunities. According to Dr McKorley, for 1D1F to truly succeed, it must be treated as a business venture, driven by private sector expertise and entrepreneurship. “If you look at our economy, what we need is industries. Industry is a whole chain that creates lots of jobs,” he said, emphasizing the importance of industrial development. Dr McKorley suggested that the government should establish an Advisory Board composed of seasoned entrepreneurs who can provide valuable guidance on the viability of proposed projects under the policy. This board, he believes, could offer crucial advice to prevent failures and ensure the success of the initiative. “With the 1D1F, it is supposed to be left for the private sector, and an Advisory Board of people who have made it can advise and say ‘If you go here, you will fail,’” he proposed. He further argued that private sector involvement is essential for protecting and sustaining the businesses created under the 1D1F policy. Dr McKorley stressed that entrepreneurs with a vested interest in the industry would be more motivated to ensure the long-term success of these factories. “1D1F needs to be run as a business. So put it in the hands of the private sector and they would protect the business.” The One District One Factory (1D1F) initiative was launched by President Akufo-Addo to change the nature of Ghana’s economy from one which is dependent on the import and export of raw materials to one focused on manufacturing, value addition and export of processed goods. The policy was also to support the private sector to establish at least one industrial enterprise in each of the administrative districts of the country. The concept of the One District One Factory (1D1F), among other initiatives of the government, is designed to transform the industrial landscape of the country and build the capacities of local enterprises to produce quality products and services for both domestic and foreign markets. However, the real value of the policy’s implementation has not been felt so far by industry and the citizenry.

The Ghanaian media space was recently awashed with sensationalism and rumour mongering to the effect that, Ghana’s shining business mogul and philantropist was paralysed, with some going to the extent that he is even dead.

Reacting to the misinformation in a viral video sighted by EAGLEGHANA.COM , the hale and hearty McDan believes it is only God who is shepheard and any man.

The business owner and entrepreneurial coach revealed in the video that he had just finished his usual exercise and is very fit as the fiddle, contrary to the negative rumours.

“Let me tell Ghanaians that they shouldn’t be worried. I’m alive, and I’m strong. It’s just a rumour.

“It’s only God who takes care of us. No man has power over us, so I’m strong. You can see I just finished playing tennis. I played one hour of tennis this morning. I’m looking okay,” he said.

He urged Ghanaians not to worry about his health and to ignore the ongoing rumours, adding that he would continue to serve them.

“So, Ghanaians shouldn’t worry. I know how much Ghanaians love me, and my love also goes out to them. Those who heard it and got worried shouldn’t be worried. I’m alive and very strong, and I’m still continuing the good things I’m doing for this country.”

Executive Chairman of the McDan Group, Dr Daniel McKorley has urged the urgent need for institutions of higher learning to adapt to trending changes and become incubators of innovation in order to effectively equip students with relevant skills and the mindset needed to survive in the vigorous job market.

“It is imperative that, our institutions of high learning adapt and innovate to equipt students with the skills and mindset necessary to thrive in this dynamic environment”,

According to him, the job market has rapidly shifted from just acquiring education and then getting absorbed into employment to current trends of technological advancements in the midst of globalisation where creativity and critical thinking is required to survive.

“In the past, the pathway to success were relatively straight forward, obtain a degree, secure a job, climb the corporste ladder, however, the landscape has shifted dramatically. Automation, artificial intelligence and globalisation have redefined the nature of work. The job of tomorrow would depend on just not technical proficiency, but creativity, critical thinking and adaptability. Therefore, our educational system must undergoe a transformation to forester these competencies. We must move beyond the traditional learning and embrace experimental interdidciplinary and flexible approaches to education”, Dr McKorley stated.

Addressing lecturers and students during the 2024 edition of the Students Industry Meeting (SIM) day of the School of Social Sciences of the University of Ghana on Monday July 1, 2024, Dr McKorley reiterated the need for universities and other high centres of learning to provide the avenue for students to question the status quo in a collaborative manner as they lead the change process as the future leaders.

“Educational Institutions must become incubators of innovation where students are encouraged to question, explore and experiment by promoting collaborative projects and forstering a culture of continues learining. We can prepare students not just to enter the workfore but to lead and shape it. It is only through such holistic and forward looking educational practices that we can empower the next generation to navigate and excel in the contrast interconnected world” Dr McKorley said.

He encouraged young people to exhibit the right attitude at all times, be passionate in the pursuit of their life goals and commit to service in order to become succesful in their chosen endeavours.

The SIM Day of the School pf Social Sciences is an annual event set aside for students to meet with industry players, professionals, policy makers and entrepreneurs tl share ideas, experiences and stimulate thoughts on best practices.

It is aimed at providing an avenue for the students to develop, acquire leadership and managerial skills even as they network of business lesders and potential employers.

The 2024 SIM Day was on the theme: “Empowering Our Students for tge World of Work”.

Executive Chairman of McDan Group, Dr Daniel Mckorley is making a strong case for more Africans to own the logistics and shipping space.

He believes that this is one of the surest ways to aid intra-African trade and deal with some of the challenges that most African firms face when it comes to moving goods in the region.

He noted that “The practice where products and goods from the region have to be first shipped outside the region and brought back has to stop.”

Dr Mckorley added that financial institutions and the government must also work to give meaning to this proposal.

Dr Daniel Mckorley said this when he joined other panellists, including Banking Chiefs and CEOs of some Multinational Groups at the AFREXIM Bank side discussions in the Bahamas, looking at how to improve Intra- African trade, with the look at the Africa Trade Gateway.

AFREXIM Bank and the Africa Trade Gateway

The Africa Trade Gateway is a dynamic digital trade ecosystem for commercial banks and their trading platforms. It’s one of the initiatives put together by the African Export and Import Bank to aid trade in the region.

It offers what can be described as a B2B marketplace for customers to transact more and generate more income.

McDan Group Chairman on AfCFTA and Trade on the continent

The Group Chairman of McDan Group maintained that “It is not fair that, when I produce in Africa, the product has to go Europe, before coming to a country like Senegal, that is not fair and it has to change.”

“This is increasing my cost as a producer and someone in the logistics space” the Group Chairman of McDan Group added.

“Whoever controls the sea, controls the business, and if we don’t have connectivity in Africa, that becomes a big challenge for all of us”he lamented.

Dr Mckorley highlighted how platforms like Africa Trade Gateway have helped in making payments in his local currency across the continent, and said the necessary support should be given to AFREXIM in terms of the support that they are giving to a lot of African businesses.

He maintained that “The African Free Trade Area deal, or call it AfCFTA, has helped him a lot in terms of doing business in Africa.

“It is now more stressful to do because in Africa, even though a lot of work still needs to be done,” the Chairman of McDan Group added.

In what was a fruitful high-level meeting to promote bilateral trade and investment, Maltese High Commissioner to Ghana, Jean-Claude Galea Mallia, and Executive Chairman of McDan Group, Dr. Daniel McKorley, provided joint recommendations on how to strengthen the commercial relationship between Ghana and Malta.

The two parties, who took this significant collaborative step on April 4th, 2024, at the Maltese High Commission, explored ways to enhance cooperation on trade, education, and investment opportunities between the two countries.

The meeting, which marks a historic moment in using Ghana and Malta as the gateways to their respective continental blocks in areas of free trade, ICT, Aviation, and Marine Logistics, opened up tremendous untapped potential that both countries can explore and exploit in sectors such as trade, agriculture and fisheries, financial services, tourism and culture, climate change, environment, and pharmaceuticals sectors, among others.

Dr. McKorley, Executive Chairman of McDan Group, expressed gratitude for Malta’s contributions to Ghana’s economy, community development projects, and charitable causes, and emphasized Ghana’s importance as one of Malta’s key partner countries. He also expressed his belief that the cooperation would create opportunities for young people in Ghana in the areas of education, training, and upscaling.

As part of this partnership and collaboration, McDan Group is already doing business with three (3) Maltese companies, one of which is Hatua OnPoint, a provider of finance and business software management solutions to support young ambitious entrepreneurs and innovative start-ups in Ghana.

Speaking on what this means to Malta, High Commissioner Jean-Claude Galea Mallia, who conveyed warm greetings from the Maltese people and government, reiterated his commitment to promoting friendly exchanges and pragmatic cooperation between the two countries, especially in niche sectors such as healthcare, medicines, and aquaculture.

The deliberation also served as a befitting platform for the two parties to discuss the latest advancements, discoveries, and technologies in Salt and Marine chemicals, paving the way for future innovations and collaborations.

This meeting only adds to the opportunities that would foster political, economic, cultural, and trade exchanges in Malta-Ghana relations, which have always been warm and friendly, rooted in shared values and a solid foundation.
